2021.12.03 01:28 SoundlessFOB Biology at La Trobe
I had put a biology course at La Trobe on my course list on Vtac, and if I got into it I was going to pick zoology as major but I just realised now... is that going to involve dissection? I mean I've really left it too late to ask this since applications close in an hour but I would rather avoid dissection as much as possible. Like a few dead things I guess is fine I've done it before but I really don't enjoy it if it's going to be a regular thing. I don't know how to find out if this is part of their curriculum. I mean I guess I'll just pick botany if need be but I'd rather do zoology

2021.12.03 01:28 Svenesteban Was I mansplained on my date?
I went out with someone who, when we disagreed on topics, would never ask for my opinion or my “why” for my position on the matter but would just explain his opinion like it was bible.
This happened over multiple disagreements regarding my love for Dua Lipa, my passion for dance and why I believed gender-segmentation and standard sizing in the fashion industry is archaic. I don’t mind the disagreeing but I do mind that he didn’t ask/let me properly speak my opinions.
Was my date mansplaining me and is this a major red flag?

2021.12.03 01:28 somenjrotckid Rant time
Oh boy here we go. Lets start with the instructors shall we? NSI is old and frankly lazy, he's been here 20+ years. He expects people to remember stuff from two years ago that was only briefly mentioned once and never brought up again. Any questions you might have are seen as a sign that you either don't know what you're doing or that you just can't pay attention, and on top of that anytime there's a problem the CO gets chewed out for it even if they literally had nothing to do with the situation. On top of all of this his instructions are often extremely confusing, or completely wrong. He also has a habit of assuming things, aka you say one thing about being confused and it turns into a chew out session because you obviously don't know what you're doing and his trust in you is obviously misplaced. SNSI is new, and frankly a little b*tch, he's wary of changing anything because he can't get along with the NSI. He's a walking bag of forgotten responsibilities and broken promises because he's scared of taking charge of the f*cking unit and putting the NSI in his damn place. Staff is in shambles, the CO is emotional as hell, and going through an extremely rough time right now. On top of this their support structure is practically non-existent, with most of staff either being ignorant of their damn jobs or just being too lazy to do it (with a few exceptions). We literally have a safety officer, who's a LTJG, and a NS4, who's never taken their sword test. The seniors are almost non-existent, I've seen our MAA in the room once this entire semester, and I'm in the room every day before, during, and after school. Said MAA also refuses to carry out any punishments, and after a week or two will just erase EMI's from the board, meaning the only punishments that ever get handed out are a quick chew out session from the NSI or some pushups from the SNSI. The XO isn't talking to anyone, including the MCPO, or PC's about anything. They're also not conducting their bi-weekly room inspection, leaving the PC's with no idea of what the hell is going on half the time and the first lieutenant to just wonder if the room cleaning is enough. The MCPO is a b*tch, they end meetings prematurely because they don't want to hear criticism from their chiefs and constantly get into extremely unprofessional arguments with their people. PC's in my unit are weird, we have it slated as a junior level position. Problem is that there was never any training for the job, and any juniors this year will have never finished their freshman year in the unit, and had an entirely online sophomore year. This wouldn't be a huge deal if there was any oversight whatsoever from the Seniors or Instructors, but 99% of the time they're given a plan of the day and just left to their own devices. In the smaller platoons this works decently well, as they've gotten used to their responsibilities, but in the bigger platoons they have an extremely hard time controlling the crowds, and with little to no support from the seniors or instructors they've devolved into shouting contests to see who feels like paying attention half the time. Team commanders aren't doing any better. We've had two of our primary commanders get fired a week before our first competition because both of them had personal things pop up out of their control that prevented them from attending. On top of this members from both teams were pulled based on seniority and given exactly 5 f*cking days to figure out everything a team commander has to know, this includes memorizing the drill cards, report in, report out, and everything that goes into commanding a team properly. Now ordinarily this might not be a huge issue, but as luck would have it the NSI is practically never outside watching the teams practice, nor does he inform the commanders about anything they need to know or where they should look for information regarding meets. The few times he has come out have been a breath of fresh air for the teams, as they can get genuine feedback and actually learn how specific movements are done. What about the rest of the juniors you might ask? Sad to say its not going much better. Due to staff being complete idiots most of the juniors have 2-3x as much responsibility placed on them as they should, we have full time PC's who are busy teaching 30+ person platoons by themselves on half remembered two year old knowledge while also being team commanders and participating on teams themselves. Needless to say they're a bit overwhelmed with responsibility, and while I hate to admit it most of them are planning on quitting this semester because they can't do anything outside of ROTC and the stress is starting to get to them. The sophomores are doing a little better, they don't have as much to worry about, but as the juniors start dropping like flies its going to get worse. We are quite literally scraping the bottom of the f*cking barrel because people just can't take the bullsh*t anymore and don't want to put up with being treated like massive piles of human sh*t by the people who are supposed to be teaching them. In short, my unit is f*cked 50 ways from Sunday and this is rant only scratching the surface of sh*t I have to say about it. Any opinions are appreciated, I don't have contact with anyone outside my unit so I'm not sure if this is par for the course and we just need to man the f*ck up, or if there's some serious problems here that need fixing.

2021.12.03 01:28 xbriannova Action Dreams
It's the second time this week, and I don't know what triggered it. Had a weird dream again and I'm not sure if it's lucid.
It's the same, both times. Some guy stole a bunch of stuff from my home, so I gave chase. I would manage to corner him and I'd get into a fight with that fellow. I even remember the tactical decisions I made.
That guy had a knife, so I focused on seizing his arms to avoid getting stabbed. Didn't turn out the way I imagined. Every time I seize his knife arm by the wrist, he would pass his knife to his other arm and go on to stab me in a frenzy.
I even remember how crazy that guy was.
"JAB JAB JAB!!!" He would scream maniacally.
I would try the same tactic over and over, but hat bastard weasel would pass his knife to his other hand. I remember grabbing both his hands by the wrists, but by then I was weakened by getting stabbed multiple times. That would be the time I wake up.
What really scares me a little is how real the dream was. I'm not a martial arts expert, and the only martial arts training I have is in performance wushu, so it made sense that I couldn't quite gain the upper hand.
Anyhoo, any explanations on what is going on, why I'm having this recurring dream and what it potentially means?
Also, if there's any self-defense experts here, care to share a few tips on how to subdue an armed opponent?

2021.12.03 01:28 Zero23wn One of many birthday people alone
Maybe I'm not alone, maybe is people around me, but do they care? I'm a ghost, I'm a forniture in the house, I'm a 28yo man with a family who doesn't care about him, I just work and play video games, no friends, no people with who I can be real... I don't know what to expect, I don't know why I keep expecting good things from people, no one care about me, and the woman that I love is a 1000km away, and with someone else.
Why keep living? No one will miss me really

2021.12.03 01:28 OkPlant2595 New client with cerebral palsy. Need advice.
Hello, everyone I'm in need of some advice. I have a client who has cerebral palsy. The entire left side of his body is effected. His left shoulder is raised slightly higher than his right shoulder. He can only rotate his left wrist slightly. He cannot rotate the left wrist so that his palm faces the ceiling. He has a slight limp when he steps on his left foot. His hamstrings are extremely tight. And on top of all that, he is flat footed. He wants to lose weight. His diet is awesome. He's already lost 13lbs in a couple of weeks from proper dieting alone. He wants to incorporate exercising into his regimen, which is why he came to me. I've being doing nothing but research since we had our consultation, but, again, I woukd love some advice from anyone who may have experience in dealing with similar conditions. Look forward to hearing from any of you. 👍🏻

2021.12.03 01:28 i_should_get_a_suit Pre-built computer for gaming
I just found out I'm getting a pretty big Christmas bonus and I've needed to upgrade for a while.
My absolute max is $1,500 but I would prefer to keep it under $1,400. Other than general office work, it will be used entirely for gaming. I would prefer pre-built unless there is a large price difference, which seems unlikely given the current market.

2021.12.03 01:28 mbal28 PC won't boot from SSD
I just migrated most of my parts to a new case, while also upgrading my motherboard and CPU. The PC posted and I'm in the BIOS right now. Before I rebuilt my pc, I had a 240gb SSD (with windows on it) and a 1TB HDD, both of which are in my new rig.
I am trying to boot into windows, but in the boot priority list, my SSD is not there, and that is what windows was installed on. I tried booting from a USB but it requires me formatting my SSD, which I don't want to do because I have some files that I don't want to lose on it. What do I do? Is there some way for me to boot for the SSD?

2021.12.03 01:28 tanotsurewhattodo12 how do stocks + alimony work out?
If one person in the separation/divorce has a lot of stocks.. that are worth say a million or more.. I know they are split in half.. what ever is vested if I understand correctly. If that half gives the lower income a good chunk of money in the bank.. does it affect alimony.. in terms of monthly pay as well as duration? I would think that if my SO gets a 500K or more in money from stock I earned.. due to the half split thing.. that I shouldn't have to pay her much if any alimony, right? Like.. isn't that way more than enough money (on top of her salary which is enough to live on comfortably but still half of mine)? Or do they not count that at all and I am still going to get stuck paying her loads of money for 10+ years (22 year marriage)?
